Modular Scheduling Constraint Speci cation
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes an improved speciication method of scheduling constraints for high-level synthesis. Communication with external devices imposes many scheduling constraints and added functionality on a design. Traditional methods require the designer to manually embed the external constraints from all outside devices into the description of the system being designed; this approach is both tedious and error-prone. We use the behavior nite-state machine model|a nite-state machine model extended to model scheduling|to create interface descriptions as separate models. Interface constraint modules can be designed once and placed in libraries, reducing work and the chance of error in the interface speciication; freeing the designer from manually reeecting external interface behavior in the system under design also reduces design errors.

Experience in applying expert systems revealed that there is usually a signi cant gap between the problem in the expert's mind and its formal speci cation. Thus, real-world con guration and scheduling problems often require a close dialogue between an expert and the expert system during the con guration process in order to bridge this gap. The expert must be able to re ne and correct the proble...
متن کاملModels and Methods for HW/SW Intellectual Property Interfacing
This paper focuses on the problem of enabling system companies to quickly integrate IPs from di erent sources, and adapt them to di erent manufacturing technologies. An evolutionary approach from current methodologies is possible with appropriate and extensive CAD support. We cover the main aspects of interfacing Intellectual Property, both in hardware and software form, in an embedded system d...
متن کاملDetecting Isomorphisms of Modular Specifications with Diagrams
We propose to detect isomorphisms of algebraic modular speci cations, by representing speci cations as diagrams over a category C0 of base speci cations and speci cation morphisms. We start with a formulation of modular speci cations as terms, which are interpreted as diagrams. This representation has the advantage of being more abstract, i.e. less dependent of one speci c construction than ter...
متن کاملPetri Nets for the Speci cation and Prototyping of Complex Information Systems ?
We present a Petri net based framework called G-Net for the modular design of complex information systems. The motivation of this framework is to integrate Petri net theory with a modular, objectoriented approach for the speci cation and prototyping of complex software systems. We use the client/server example to illustrate the G-Net speci cation of distributed systems, and how such a speci cat...
متن کاملConstraints Speci cation for TaskScheduling in Real - Time
Dealing with scheduling problems leads to the need of task models representing their activation, execution and termination characteristics. During the last 20 years a lot of research has been done on scheduling of real-time systems and a huge number of real-time scheduling algorithms were proposed. In this paper we present a summary of the task constraints handled by the existing algorithms. Un...
